From ce-customer_specials at mail.computingedge.net Tue Mar 31 11:42:13 2009 From: ce-customer_specials at mail.computingedge.net (Computing Edge, Inc Customer News Letter & Special Offerings) Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2009 11:42:13 -0500 Subject: [CE-Customer_Specials] Time Sensitive Information on April 1st Virus Infections Message-ID: <003d01c9b21f$a64a3060$f2de9120$@net> **Security Bulletin from Valerie at Computing Edge, Inc.** Every year, the people that create viruses and other bad stuff like to have them go off on April 1st. This is their cruel little April Fool's Day joke they like to play. You may have recently heard in the news about it. This year, the Virus is called Conficker. If you are running Microsoft Windows, you may be infected. The leading security experts have been working around the clock to prepare for the outbreak. They have come up with a simple test to check if you are infected before it deploys on April 1st. Simply go to these websites and see if they come up. (How this works: The virus doesn't want you to go to antivirus websites so you can clean up the virus before it starts) If the website doesn't come up or says Page Not Found- let us know immediately! This must be done TODAY before the virus deploys tomorrow. The websites: * http://www.symantec.com/norton/theme.jsp?themeid=conficker_worm &inid=us_ghp_link_conficker_worm * http://www.mcafee.com Click on these links or paste them into your browser. --- More information: "US-CERT is aware of public reports indicating a widespread infection of the Conficker worm, which can infect a Microsoft Windows system from a thumb drive, a network share, or directly across a network if the host is not patched with MS08-067." "If a user is unable to reach either of these websites, a Conficker infection may be indicated (the most current variant of Conficker interferes with queries for these sites, preventing a user from visiting them). If a Conficker infection is suspected, the infected system should be removed from the network." "A remote, unauthenticated attacker could execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system." ---- Email me if you have any questions (vburtchett at computingedge.net) or call with any emergencies (417-869-8192 x 1000). Response time may vary based on volume of customer responses and problems associated with Conficker/ Virus Outbreaks.
